Siemens enhances digital twins with new NVIDIA integration

Yesterday

Siemens Digital Industries Software has announced the launch of Teamcenter Digital Reality Viewer, integrating NVIDIA Omniverse to advance photorealistic visualization capabilities.

The new software solution combines the NVIDIA Omniverse platform and accelerated computing with Siemens' Teamcenter, enhancing visualisation of intricate datasets often found in engineering and manufacturing. This innovation enables businesses to engage with photorealistic, physics-based digital twins, which could streamline product development processes by minimising errors and increasing workflow efficiency.

Joe Bohman, Executive Vice President, PLM Products at Siemens Digital Industries Software, stated, "Working with NVIDIA, we're supercharging the capabilities of the Siemens Xcelerator software portfolio. Teamcenter Digital Reality Viewer, our first product embedded with NVIDIA Omniverse, will help our customers further accelerate their product development workflows and eliminate workflow waste and errors."

The integration of real-time ray tracing capabilities into Teamcenter is set to allow users to visualise these highly detailed digital twins, promising enhanced realism. This improved visualisation enables users to gain greater insights and a deeper understanding of product designs throughout the product lifecycle.

Beyond improving design fidelity, the introduction of photorealistic digital twins through Teamcenter Digital Reality Viewer is expected to reduce costs and speed up time-to-market. By minimising the reliance on expensive physical prototypes and eliminating the need for separate virtual environments, companies can focus their resources more effectively.

The software is designed to facilitate seamless collaboration amongst stakeholders, allowing real-time collaboration and ensuring that all parties work with current data. Additionally, live 3D data interoperability and integration is a highlight of the software, keeping product information synchronised and decreasing the likelihood of data errors or discrepancies.

The Teamcenter Digital Reality Viewer supports various stages of the product lifecycle, including design, engineering, sales, and marketing, all within a unified platform. This capability is intended to streamline decision-making processes as all visualizations and alterations are tracked, improving traceability for users.

Siemens is employing a cloud-based rendering-as-a-service model, complemented by a centralised cloud-based GPU cluster to assure consistent, high-performance visualisation abilities for its users. This setup allows organisations to prioritise their tasks without the overhead of managing extensive hardware or software infrastructure.

The introduction of the Teamcenter Digital Reality Viewer marks a significant step in Siemens' ambition to enhance the digital twin experience by incorporating scalable photorealism into its PLM offerings. It leverages the PLM digital thread backbone, providing greater realism and context, thereby delivering a more immersive experience for design reviews and collaborative efforts across multiple-CAD data.
