Bazaarvoice and Bluefish have partnered on AI product recommendations, combining Bazaarvoice's review systems with Bluefish's AI visibility monitoring.

Brands will be able to track how AI tools cite their products and spot inaccurate references as they appear, rather than waiting for customers to report them.

Under the arrangement, Bluefish will monitor share of voice, assess sentiment across audience segments and issue alerts when AI engines generate incorrect brand information. It will also identify gaps in AI visibility and send those recommendations to Bazaarvoice for action through review collection, product sampling and tools designed to make customer feedback easier for AI crawlers to read.

The announcement is backed by new joint research suggesting a stronger link between consumer trust in AI shopping tools and the presence of customer reviews behind recommendations.

The study found that 57% of consumers said authentic reviews and star ratings were the main reason they trusted an AI product recommendation, ahead of brand reputation, price or the AI tool's own explanation. It also found that 90% considered it at least somewhat important to know an AI tool had sourced its recommendation from real customer reviews and photos, including 57% who said this was very important.

Researchers also reported a shift in attitudes toward AI-assisted shopping over the past six months. According to the findings, 62% of respondents said their trust in AI recommendations had increased over that period, while 26% said it had increased significantly.

Review signals

The companies linked AI citations to pages with strong review signals. Their data showed that 59% of AI-cited product detail pages had 100 or more reviews, 92% carried ratings of four stars or higher, and 65% displayed a review summary near the top of the page.

Bluefish also analysed AI citation data across ChatGPT Web, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. In that dataset, Bazaarvoice appeared on one-third of AI-cited product detail pages with reviews, the largest share among verified review platforms and nearly twice the next highest, according to the companies.

The consumer research covered more than 1,700 adults across the US, Asia-Pacific and Europe, the Middle East and Africa, all screened for active AI use. A separate earlier study cited by the companies surveyed more than 1,300 US adults to compare changes in attitudes over time.

For brands, the commercial issue is less about abstract AI adoption and more about whether product information is presented accurately when shoppers ask generative search tools for recommendations. If an AI engine cites the wrong features, misses recent feedback or favours competitors with more visible review content, marketers risk losing sales before a shopper reaches a retailer's site.

That creates a new layer of work for consumer brands and retailers already managing search rankings, paid media and marketplace listings. Monitoring AI responses adds another channel where product claims, sentiment and review depth can influence buying decisions.

Bluefish has positioned itself around that emerging market. It said brands including Adidas, Bacardi, General Mills, Hearst, Unilever and Tishman Speyer use its platform to track how major AI systems describe their products and services. Since launching in 2024, Bluefish said it has expanded to serve more than 10% of the Fortune 500 across 15 sectors, including travel, financial services, consumer packaged goods, luxury and beauty.

Bazaarvoice, founded in 2005, said it works with more than 13,000 brands and retailers. Its business centres on collecting, moderating, verifying and distributing ratings, reviews and other forms of user-generated content, including customer photos and videos, across retailer and media networks.

The tie-up reflects a broader shift in digital commerce as review content moves beyond product pages and into the data layer AI systems use to answer shopping questions. For companies that have invested heavily in customer feedback over many years, the challenge now is making that material visible and structured enough to be picked up accurately by machine-generated search results.

Alex Sherman, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Bluefish, described the partnership as a way to connect AI monitoring with marketing action. "This partnership is about helping brands take AI signal out of a report and into real marketing execution across content commerce and media," Sherman said. "Bluefish enables brands to translate AI performance intelligence into powerful agentic campaigns that run across critical marketing channels like Bazaarvoice content programs."

Brenda Tuohig, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Bazaarvoice, said the findings showed shoppers want AI recommendations rooted in verified customer feedback. "The data confirms what we've seen across the market: verified consumer voices are now not only one of the top currencies AI recommendation engines use to guide shoppers, shoppers are also actively demanding it," Tuohig said. "With consumer trust in AI search rising alongside the prioritization of crawlable UGC, tracking your AI visibility without a way to rapidly publish structured reviews leaves your brand exposed. Our partnership with Bluefish bridges the gap between deep, category-level intelligence and immediate execution. We're giving enterprise brands the real-time alerting, vertical-specific insights, and technical infrastructure they need to capture market share as generative search continues to accelerate."
