Chris Koehler named as Twilio's new Chief Marketing Officer

Chris Koehler, a marketing veteran with more than a quarter of a century's experience, has been announced as the new Chief Marketing Officer of the customer engagement platform, Twilio. In this senior role, Koehler will report to CEO Khozema Shipchandler and assume responsibility for Twilio's international marketing strategy, enhancing brand visibility in key markets, and promoting product innovation.

Joining Twilio following a period as CMO at Box, Koehler brings an impressive track record in expanding customer engagement and promoting technological innovation. The intention is for him to play a crucial role in growing the market share of Twilio Communications and Segment, while directing messaging and positioning to showcase Twilio's customer engagement platform. This innovative platform, integrating communications, data, and AI, aims to unlock superior value for a diverse customer base.

Prior to Twilio and Box, Koehler led marketing, customer success, solution consulting, demand generation, and enablement teams at a range of high-profile companies, including Adobe Systems, E*TRADE Financial, SunTrust Bank, and Claritas. He was instrumental in taking Box past the $1 billion annual revenue milestone in fiscal 2024.

Commenting on his new position, Koehler says, "I’ve long admired Twilio as an innovative, developer-first company, and the opportunity to help build the next generation of customer engagement is exciting. Having interacted with Twilio products as a Segment customer, I believe Twilio has a massive opportunity to combine its leading data capabilities with its world-class Communications platform to deliver the kind of one-to-one experiences that brands have been trying to achieve for years, but few have realised."

The appointment of Koehler is part of a significant expansion in Twilio's management team, which has also recently welcomed Inbal Shani, as Chief Product Officer for Twilio Communications, and Thomas Wyatt, as President of Segment. Shani joined Twilio after a tenure at Github, where she was responsible for core product management, strategy, marketing, and design. Wyatt, in his role as President of Segment, is focused on product innovation and go-to-market execution, arriving at Twilio from People.ai.
