RØDE updates Wireless Micro with Bluetooth, new app features

Today

RØDE has launched a new firmware update for its Wireless Micro system, introducing Bluetooth connectivity and several new features via the RØDE Capture app.

The update, named Direct Connect, allows Wireless Micro transmitters to pair directly with iOS devices through Bluetooth, eliminating the requirement for a physical receiver. This feature enables users to connect their microphones directly to iPhones, streamlining the setup process for content creators.

Direct Connect is accessed within the RØDE Capture app and does not require any additional hardware or accessories. The company states that the update maintains the audio quality associated with Wireless Micro, while delivering greater flexibility to users.

Damien Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of RØDE, highlighted the motivation behind the update, stating, "With Direct Connect, we're making content creation more seamless than ever. It's a direct response to what our users have been asking for – true wireless freedom, less hardware, and complete control from their phone. We're thrilled to bring this feature to the Wireless Micro as we continue leading the way in compact, professional audio solutions."

Alongside Direct Connect, RØDE has added new features to the RØDE Capture companion app as part of the latest firmware release. A new noise reduction function is included, assisting in delivering clearer audio by reducing background noise, which the company suggests is particularly suitable for recording in unpredictable or noisy environments.

The noise reduction setting can be activated independently for each transmitter, allowing users to tailor the noise control for individual devices according to the needs of the recording environment.

The update also gives creators additional recording options. With the introduction of merged and split modes, users can choose to record in merged mode—where audio from both transmitters is combined into a single stereo track, suitable for immediate publishing—or in split mode, in which each transmitter's audio is captured on a separate channel for more detailed editing during post-production.

A further addition to the app is output gain control, which lets users adjust the recording levels directly within the app. This provides them with the ability to ensure audio levels are appropriately balanced without the need for external software or hardware.

These new functions come at no additional cost to existing or new Wireless Micro users, as Direct Connect is offered via a free firmware update on the RØDE Capture app.

The product's recent success in Rolling Stone's 2025 Audio Awards, where it was awarded Best Microphone, was referenced by the company as an indicator of its presence in the content creation market. The Wireless Micro was recognised for its small form factor, ease of use, and sound quality, and has been described by RØDE as its most accessible wireless microphone solution so far.

The Wireless Micro is available in both black and white options and is offered in USB-C and Lightning versions. It includes a pocket-sized charging case that provides up to 21 hours of battery life. The Wireless Micro is now compatible with a broader array of devices due to the inclusion of wireless iOS pairing via Direct Connect.

The Wireless Micro is available for purchase globally at a price of USD $149. The company has confirmed that the Direct Connect upgrade is included as part of a free firmware update accessible through the RØDE Capture app.
